Bucknell University Historic Restoration for Cast Stone
The Cast Stone arches at Bucknell are located in a large and stately room which is used for many VIP functions for alumni and others. Water damage began after a water infiltration problem happened with the roof system. The damage to the color became fairy widespread, and although the leak was repaired, and the water which caused the damage had been corrected, the problem of some mild deterioration remained. Exact Match was called in to repair the Cast Stone to match to the original areas undamaged by water. We brought in a very talented masonry restoration company who tackled the patching and repairs for the Cast Stone. The restoration mason contractors were able to repair the project quickly and cost-effectively, because they did not have to consider the color of the patching materials, they only needed to ensure repairs were done and that the texture was the same. From there, Exact Match carefully provided the final touch needed to restore the Cast Stone. The color matched to all surrounding Cast Stone and the result was just as beautiful and amazing as the University had hoped for. We often hear of restoration contractors who bill for many man hours lost searching for expensive, custom order materials with long lead times and costly freight or shipping fees as well. While they work very hard trying to get an exact match with these expensive materials, and all of their time invested, the results are not accepted, the work is still not a good match. This is beyond any restoration contractor’s control, which is why we are called in to get an exact match for the project. When we are part of the team, the historic restoration is complete to an exact match. One of the focal points of the room has now been restored to a result that the University is very proud of, and it was completed just in time for a very important annual function.
